Chiller Failure on Milk Pasteurisation Line
Challenge
A large UK milk producer called All Seasons Hire with a problem. One of its sites had a chiller failure on a pasteurisation line, without which the dairy couldn’t operate. The site had used All Seasons Hire previously to overcome high cooling tower temperatures in the summer; so they knew exactly who to call when the failure occurred. The chiller served a dual-pass plate heat exchanger, with a cooling tower on the first pass, the chiller needed to take the milk from thirty degrees to five degrees.
Fortunately, the site had taken our advice in the summer and during shutdown installed pipe connections should this scenario ever happen. A 500kW chiller was installed within 24 hours of the breakdown. All Seasons Hire provided a full turnkey service including generator, fuel and additional Glycol. The installation caused minimal disruption and averted thousands of litres of milk going to waste.
